I am always looking for new places that serve a memorable experience along with memorable food. I think I found just the ticket at Coolgreens.
Coolgreens is a place that appreciates serving natural foods in a modern way (which I love!). The setting is very cozy. If I had to give it a name- "natural mod." There is a large dining area with some round tables (and some square) which fascilitate group interaction as well as a few booths. I strongly believe the company one shares while dining is just as sacred and memorable as the food itself. Some chaires have wooden veneers. The dishes they use are clean, classic white with real silverware. The sounds that one can expect to hear are that of a cafeteria. Coolgreens has that vibe. But, not your school cafeteria with hairnets and flying spitballs, but a classy kind. There are dishes clanking and the murmurs of conversation. You can watch your salad or wrap being prepared before your eyes. Pizzas are made in the back kitchen. The employees bring your order to your table.
I ordered the Plaza Skinny Wrap. One thing the menu does not make entirely clear under the Salads and Wraps category is that anything in that list can be made as either a salad or a wrap, your choice. If I had to summarize the Plaza Skinny in one word it would be: FLAVOR! This wonderful wrap was full of capers, sun-dried tomatoes, mashed avacado, a delicious dressing (just the right amount!), chicken, and something new to me, heart of palm. It is fiberous and has not much flavor alone, and has the texture of artichoke hearts. Absolutely wonderful. If I were stranded on a desert island with only one thing to eat, I just might choose this sandwich. It was served alongside about 1/2 cup of curried couscous, which was also great. If you have never tried curry before, this would be a good place to start because it isn't too spicy but enough to understand the flavor. Mixed in with it were golden raisins, slivered almonds, and parsley (I believe that was the herb).
My sister (my dining companion) order the Margherita Pizza. Of course, I had to try a bite too! The crust was whole grain, not too thin or thick, chewy. The mozzerella was ooey, gooey. The tomatoes were perfect. Simple and delicious.
We were there on a Friday, so the frozen yogurt special of the day was Pink Grapefruit. I ordered the "Fit" size, which is their small ($2 is a little pricey but the flavor is there). I would say it's the equivalent of one decent-sized scoop. This is plenty for one person, or two who want to share. You can choose one topping for your "Fit" size. I chose sliced kiwi. Wow, great combination! Very refreshing for a hot 100 degree day here in Oklahoma City.
On a final note, let's talk about the service, which is crucial to a great experience. The staff was friendly and helpful. I can't say it was the kind of "go-out-of-your-way" service, but it was good. When I think of absolutely GREAT service, I think of Chick-Fil-A. Almost no one compares. So, I may be a bit bias on this note.
I hope you will check out your local Coolgreens if you are looking for FLAVOR. You can expect to pay $9-11 for salads and wraps, $7-8 for pizzas, $3-5 for soups. There are 2 locations in NW OKC- one in Nichols Hills and one near Quail Springs Mall ( I went to that one), one in Norman, one in Edmond, and one downtown. Check their website for addresses.
